About Dzibilchaltun with Cenote and Progreso Beach
Dzibilchaltun with Cenote. This is one of the oldest cities of the Mayan civilisation in Yucatan. Its main structure is an astronomical observatory called Las Siete Munecas, (Temple of the Seven Dolls) named after the clay doll offerings found within the building. It is famous for the sun shining directly through the doorway at sunrise on the spring equinox. It has a fine Mayan museum from the time of the conquest through the colonial era and there is also a spectacular cenote for swimming
Progreso Beach. It is the nearest beach and port to Merida. Its long, sandy beaches are ideal for swimming and it also has a large number of restaurants to enjoy dishes based on fish and seafood.
